Retirement Plan amends pension benefit formula effective Dec. 1, 2025

Summary: The Board of Trustees of the AFTRA Retirement Fund has revised the pension benefit formula to an earnings-based formula (the “Earnings formula”) effective Dec 1, 2025.

 

Full story: The Board of Trustees of the AFTRA Retirement Fund has adopted a change to the benefit formula, which will be revised to an earnings-based formula (the “Earnings formula”) effective Dec 1, 2025.  To simplify the Retirement Plan and to eliminate the impact of non-benefit bearing contributions going forward, effective Dec. 1, 2025, the Board has changed the formula for benefits earned in the future that it is based on Covered earnings, rather than Covered Employer Contributions.  Covered Earnings and Contributions prior to Dec. 1, 2025 will continue to be credited under the previous contributions-based formula (the “Contributions formula”). 

The November 2025 Benefits Update is available on this website and provides detailed information about this important upcoming change to the AFTRA Retirement Plan, including several examples to assist in understanding how the change may affect you. This Benefits Update is being distributed to Participants, and will also be available at www.aftraretirement.org at (“Retirement Fund”| “Retirement Plan SPD”).  

This November 2025 Benefits Update serves as a Summary Modification Materials (SMM) to the AFTRA Retirement Plan.  You are strongly encouraged to keep this SMM to the AFTRA Retirement Plan with the current Summary Plan Description (SPD), issued in June, 2025. You may also want to refer to the Retirement Plan SPD to learn more about your benefit options and how they affect your annual benefit.
